Alternative programs

The Chilean Patagonia can be enjoyed in many ways.

A number of guided recreational activities can be coordinated for the enjoyment of accompanying non-anglers and occasional guests, such as horseback riding, rafting, kayaking, trekking, motorboat tours in Lakes General Carrera, Bertrand and Cochrane, and sightseeing tours to the awesome Marble Cathedrals and the impressive hanging glaciers at Bahia Exploradores.

All of these are unforgettable half-day or full-day experiences that include transportation and lunch, or barbecue when appropriate. Please take into account that all non-fishing activities are subject to advanced scheduling and weather conditions.

Horseback riding

The wonderful scenery at Patagonia Baker Lodge is very inviting, and we have different alternatives for horseback riding. Here, a couple of examples:

Half day

Departure from the lodge, riding through selected trails in the nearby hills and forests. Duration is approximately 3 to 5 hours, guided by a “huaso” (Chilean cowboy), for a maximum of 8 guests.

Full day

More demanding, better if skilled riders. Departure from the lodge, riding through selected trails in the nearby hills and forests. Duration is approximately 5 to 9 hours, guided by a “huaso” (local cowboy). Designed for a minimum of 4, and a maximum of 8 guests. Includes a typical Patagonian lamb barbeque or lunch box, depending on weather conditions.

Navigation

We provide modern and safe engine-powered Zodiacs and expert licensed guides for the enjoyment of the whole family.

The Baker River

With its powerful turquoise waters, the Baker can be navigated in quite a few of its sections. Departing from our lodge’s dock, we will show you through some of the most breathtaking sceneries, for a glimpse of the endemic flora and fauna. Bring along your camera, it’s a must. Half day, for a maximum of six passengers.

Lake Plomo

Departing from Puerto Bertrand, a small town near the lodge located at the birth of the Baker, into Lake Bertrand and straight towards Lake Plomo. Offers a privileged view of some of the glaciers at the Northern Ice fields. Half day, for a maximum of eight guests.

The Marble Cathedrals

This is a unique group of caves located on the banks of the great Lake General Carrera. These are incredibly beautiful natural formations built in solid marble by the tides through the ages. Departure by ground from the lodge to Puerto Tranquilo, and from there by boat to the caverns. Approximate overall duration is half day, and is a suitable outing for the whole family. Bring your camera along.

Fauna

Huemul watching at Tamango National Park

The huemul is the largest Patagonian deer, an endangered species. A visit to this wildlife Aysen sanctuary is a great opportunity to observe them at close range, in their own natural environment.

Departure by ground from the lodge to the city of Cochrane, and from there by boat to the Park. Approximate overall duration is half day, and is a suitable outing for the whole family. Bring your camera along.

Birdwatching

A brand new birdwatching and wildlife program has been carefully developed and added to our services. Our expert birding guide will plan your program in accordance with the season’s updated specific conditions. The standard extension of this program is 4 days - 5 nights, but it can be adapted to fully combine with the duration of a fishing program. Day programs are available.

Adventure: Rafting and Kayaking

Practiced at the mighty upper Baker River, is strongly recommended for the more adventurous and adrenalin lovers. Each activity has an approximate duration of half day. Kayaking is for a maximum of four, and calls for some degree of previous experience. Rafting is for between six and eight passengers. Both activities require advanced booking.
